Your Website Is Not About You
Here’s a hard truth that makes every website better: your website is not about you. It’s about your customer — their problem, their goal, and how you help them get there. Most sites get this backwards, and it quietly costs them business.
The “we” trap
Open most homepages and you’ll read: “We were founded in… We offer… We are passionate about…” The visitor is sitting there thinking one thing: what does this do for me? When your copy leads with you instead of them, they tune out.
Flip the script
Lead with the customer’s situation, not your history. Instead of “We build custom websites,” try “Get a website that actually brings in customers.” Same service — but now it’s about their outcome. Your experience and story still matter; they just belong in support of the customer’s goal, not in front of it.
A simple test
Read your homepage and count how many sentences start with “we” versus how many speak to “you.” If “we” is winning, rewrite it. Every section should answer the visitor’s question: how does this make my life better?
The payoff
When people feel understood, they trust you — and they act. Customer-focused copy is one of the highest-leverage changes you can make, and it costs nothing but a rewrite. Need a second pair of eyes? That’s exactly the kind of thing we handle in a website refresh.
